Management Achievements

MANAGEMENT ACHIEVEMENTS

I have summarized below some of the significant contracts involving a variety of clients including Government, Joint University/Government, and Private Sector. I was responsible for preparing the bids and work proposals as well as managing all aspects of implementation such as hiring key personnel, planning, budgeting and achieving results and deliverables according to the contract terms, as follows:

NATIONAL RESEARCH COUNCIL (1983 to 1985)

The Solar Energy Program of the Energy Division for a total of approximately $240,000 awarded three contracts.

MANPOWER TRAINING & NRC POSTEGRADUATE RESEARCH AWARDS (1983 to 1990)

I was awarded several contracts for job training, including a major contract for tissue culture laboratory skills training, and awards to post-graduate research assistant totaling over $110,000.

INDUSTRIAL ECONOMIC EXPANSION CONTRIBUTION AGREEMENT

This contract for $180,000 was received in 1985 for the construction of SOLAROOF's specialized research facility in Valleyfield, PQ.

ENERGY, MINES & RESOURCES

A $160,000 grant for technology demonstration was received in 1985 for the first large scale THERMACTIVE membrane roof system prototypes incorporating removable liquid insulation in conjunction with the research facilities above mentioned.

NATIONAL RESEARCH COUNCIL, INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

From 1989 through 1991 won and managed three contacts amounting to approximately $65,000. This work involved consulting at NASA research facilities and collaborative work with their CELSS (Closed Ecological Life Support systems) Purdue University subcontractors in 1993.

QUATTRO R&D PARTNERSIUP

I established a computer science research project, as a joint venture between Control Data Canada Corp. and private Toronto based investors, and managed implementation at my research facility in Montreal. I hired the key personnel including the Director of Research, Donald Collins, Ph.D., Architect, now Chairman of Manufacturing and Industrial Technology of Arizona State University.

The R&D program involved development of Artificial Intelligence Systems applied to building and construction design Software to be used by architects and engineers. This program involved a current expenditure of over $5 million and operated from 1988 through 1992 when financial difficulties at CDC's parent Control Data Corporation in the USA lead to the winding up of the venture,

STRATEGIC TECHNOLOGIES DEVELOPMENT FUND - AI AWARD

$500,000 was awarded in a joint Private Sector/Government/University Contract with the research work being conducted by Dr, A Liptay of Agriculture Canada, Harrow Research Station and by The Professor Gargantini, Chair of Computer Science, of the University of Western Ontario, London.

CANADIAN INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT AGENCY

I won bids on two contracts for a study in Morocco in 1991 and in Egypt in 1995 amounting to $115,000 contract value. I was requested to assess the commercial potential for tissue culture laboratories to be established in these countries. Our study for Morocco included the development of an appropriate business plan, which subsequently resulted in a $5 Million investment and a successful commercial project.

MANAGEMENT STRENGTHS AND AGRICULTURAL EXPERIENCE

I have a great depth of consulting experience in agricultural technology and especially greenhouse, nursery, shade-structures and plant biotechnology operations. I have had the opportunity to examine the use of materials for greenhouse covering and many types of construction and methods of operation in many diverse crops and climates throughout the world.

I have worked in collaboration with many government and university greenhouse research facilities around the world including NASA labs and researched the state of art of private sector tissue culture facilities in Canada, the USA, the Caribbean, China and Southeast Asia, North Africa, India, Germany, Holland, France and Spain.

In my capacity as an inventor and CEO I have negotiated Confidentiality Agreements with many multi-national corporations for co-development work involving materials technology research and manufacturing.

I have negotiated Option Agreements, Letters of Intent, Consulting Contracts and License Agreements. I have structured deals for equity investments from individual investors from the few thousand dollars to two hundred thousand, and have negotiated corporate from several hundred thousand to several million dollars.

I have been granted patents on seven fundamental inventions (having broad claims) and have received patent protection in some 50 counties. Once commercialization is underway I anticipate that I will be able to proceed with many more patent applications in related technology.
