Conversation with architect
Had a chat with a friend architect. She wonders what can be used instead of solafabric: glass or some other kind of plastic? I'll be giving her some information on CD tomorrow and she'll contact some friends.
I've learnt a bit about prices but I still have quite a few questions left - which means I'm much better off than a week ago!
The site, the community and my local contacts are all growing nicely, it seems. I wonder how I can speed things up.

- Lucas, I just had a wonderful visit with Franz Nahrada and
Dr. Gary Alexander
(garyalex@fair-green.net) who is Senior Lecturer in Information and Communication Technologies
Faculty of Technology
The Open University
See his book "eGaia, Growing a peaceful, sustainable Earth through
communications".
Gary's Personal Web site: http://sustainability.open.ac.uk/gary
The Open Co-op: http://open.coop
The open university is the largest university in England (200,000 enrolled) and is the largest internet and "distance learning" organization in the world. They would like to collaborate with the Sola Roof community to move ahead with the www.open.coop project. I was talking with Franz later (on the way to the airport) about the possibility that we could partner with the Firefox community to develop a wiki interface (for directly editing wiki pages) that would be integral with the browser. Also a system to navigate the "wiki world" and help us to build communities of collaboration. Then Sola Roof would not work in isolation but would be connected with a wider "open eco community". Franz is ready to mobilize on this theme. You heard it first here!

- Wow.
I knew about the open-coop thing. In fact I contacted Josef (qopi) at #esp (espian publicly logged chat) and have been looking at it and Josef suggested me a book on "edible container garden" which Celia finally couldn't buy for me. Franz once told me on a msl list that the open coop aproach is different from globalvillages so I'm glad there's space for cooperation.
Thing is - wow! your contacts! - I'd love to gather people for a meeting sometime on these islands - just kidding. Or maybe not.
I think I'll be pushing two different "offers" to people here on the islands: widespan for big experimentation and tunnels for smaller projects.
I need to help grow a local community.
