Our Global Commmunity Vision

Our global vision is founded on the assumption that every university and corporate campus, town and city “vision centres”, eco developments, and learning centres at major natural tourist attractions should all build, as soon as possible, EcoCenter projects that will assist the people that attend and visit these institutions and attractions to begin to understand the social transition and personal transformation that is needed to build a sustainable future. For example, every university campus should be able to build at least one residential EcoCenter, which students and teachers can live in, on a rotation – so that all gain a first hand experience with the technologies that will form an important part of their educational curriculum and are so central to their future.

At these Eco Centers large numbers of people can gain exposure through an Eco Encounter?; residential guests and Eco Tourists? can have a more intensive “Eco Living” experience; or academics and professionals may complete EcoCenter workshops and study programs that issue Certification and SE Net Registration. Eco Centers will be a resource to the Sola Roof Community and provide support to individuals and groups who will build in depth knowledge and DIY experience by building and living in Eco Home? and Eco Village? projects. The Eco Centers will form a global collaborative called OEC Net that will coordinate joint research and activities.

We cannot rebuild our centers of learning or our urban environments overnight but we can place Eco Living projects in strategic locations and at the heart of popular sites so that the greatest number of people can encounter the Eco Living concept and gain direct exposure to a sustainable lifestyle; thus people can begin to envision and participate in the general transformation of our built environment over the years ahead. It is especially important to reach young people and give them the knowledge and the tools to build a sustainable future. For the purpose of generating public awareness, and for providing educational opportunities for professionals, it is important that many Eco Centers be operated as an experiential “living laboratories” where the practical day to day details and operational knowledge can be developed and publicized. A residential training centre can provide people across our global community (including owners of Social Enterprise, who are providers of services and products to Sola Roof Members) the advantage of longer time periods of living with and researching the technology – so that over time – a detailed Knowledge Base will be built, which is our most important asset.

No living laboratory or EcoCenter can do without a library. However there is no need to create one for one's own center, the Solaroof Library will be shared on Internet. Thanks to contributions from participants of all Eco Centers a library on Solaroof topics will grow fast. Attention must be paid to the proper layout of its index. So there will be a list of Internal Solaroof Subjects? as well as a list of External Solaroof Subjects. Both libraries will offer summaries with keywords for pdf's as well as links to other web pages.
